It’s been almost two days since the last “official” day of detox. I feel so great. I love that I can wear my favorite jeans again without having a muffin top and feeling like my circulation is cut off. lol. They are actually feeling a little loose today. I will be working on losing those last 10 now though. I really want to do it before the holiday season so I can have a few treats here and there without feeling guilty. I miss my organic super dark chocolate.

As mentioned, I decided to go another few days before adding food back into my diet. I think I’ll start with my favorite whole grains, oatmeal and quinoa. I actually could have had those during detox, but since my supplements had it in there, I chose not to have extra. I will be putting off any other allergen food for a little while though. I’d actually planned to have eggs first since it is my preferred protein of choice, but after reading a PETA story about male chicks, I’m having a hard time reconciling that. I purchased some organic extra firm tofu today so I might decide to have a great stir fry soon. Our family is celebrating a special occasion this weekend, so I have to be careful about what I select to add back in because I won’t be able to have anything else new for a few days. I have opted to stay off wheat products for as long as I can. I’ve found that my body does not do well with wheat and considering two out of my three kids have wheat allergies, it’s probably best anyway. No sense in cooking it for only part of the family. I really like pita bead though, so I may have to find an alternative. I already make oat bread for my girls. Maybe I can figure out a recipe for oat pitas. I think I will work on that.

I’m creating a new exercise routine for myself and hopefully I can kick my body into gear and get exactly where I want to be. What are you doing for yourself to get healthier?

By the way, I now have a link set up for supplements and homeopathic remedies I like. You should check it out. (www.mynsp.com/livingnaturally) Don’t let the  “business opportuntity” look fool you. The products are excellent and affordable. I highly recommend them. Many other NC’s and health professinals do too. I would not recommend anything that I wouldn’t use myself. You won’t be disappointed.

Detox Day 15

Today was a good day mostly. I’m recovering from my little setback on Monday, but all is well. I was a little tired this morning for kickboxing, but made it through. I may need to up my adrenal supplement again. Also, it was a level orange ozone alert day today as well. That is always a bear to contend with. When I get bombarded with toxins and allergens, I generally feel very tired. My body has to work double time. It wasn’t as bad as it usually is though. I’m hoping to see some good results in the end. Stay tuned.

By the way, a word of caution: beware of all the inch loss, weight loss, detox products out there. I’ve been periodically detoxing for a while now. Ever since “detox” showed up on a popular daytime talk show, it’s been all the rage and everyone has a product for it now. But it’s all about money and not about health. Everyone is trying to make a dime on some new detox product. It’s the current buzz word. Some of them don’t even work or worse, does more damage to your health because it is not done properly or your body’s fragile systems are not supported during detox. The best way to do it is the natural way through whole food nutrition and supplementation, not just some bottled junk you drink for a few days. Sure it may clean you out for a few days, but you will not have accomplished much. You should also do it with set, sure, nutritional guidelines and not just based on some salesperson’s or product pitch. In particular watch out for any that says you don’t have to change your eating habits or not even exercise. That’s just not so. If you keep eating cheeseburgers while you’re detoxing you’re not actually detoxing. Additionally, beware of how food can affect you during and AFTER detox. Use common sense when looking at a program. Do it right. Your health is too important to leave it up to some kit sold by someone that has no nutritional knowledge and doesn’t even know how it works. That’s all I have to say about that.

If you want to look at the program I’m using and see my before and after, please feel free to conact me. I know mine works. I’ve done it. And you really feel the change when you’re done.

Detox Day 9

Today is Day 9. All is well. This morning I did the jean test. I was able to put on my jeans without squeezing into them. lol. Woo Hoo! They are a little snugger than I like, but I know I’m making headway. I know I am very close to taking off the summer pounds and that is a great feeling. However, I think this time I am going for gold and will try to take off those last ten stubborn pounds too. It is within reach if I stick to my plan and focus on the goal. To achieve this, although it is healthy and allowed on detox, I will not eat any potatoes and I will reserve fruit for my morning and afternoon smoothies only. I’m also going to add CLA on Day 11 when I add fish and lean protein to my diet. Plus add in some extra exercise routines. I’m so excited.

I knew over the summer I was not eating right. My body was telling me that too. But with three kids it was so easy to pick up some prepared stuff. Soon I wasn’t eating my veggies like I should and I was eating way too much bread and pasta. That’s another good thing about a longer detox, it can help you get back into the right eating frame of mind.

Today I was thinking about body and blood types. There are different body compositions and types out there and each has it’s own set of nutritional needs. But did you know that your blood type can also affect your nutritional needs? I know it sounds weird. I was skeptical at first too. I came across a “cheat sheet” that a lady showed me that she’d picked up from a pharmacy a long while ago. I knew my blood type, so looked at the list and said, ‘yeah right’. It listed all these things I should try to avoid or have in limited amounts. I remember thinking there is no way I can do that. That can’t be right. Then I came across this same information again in my studies. I’m a type A. My type diet profile says that I do best with a mostly vegetarian diet: vegetables, fruit, tofu, seafood, grains, beans, and legumes. And that I should avoid meat, dairy, kidney beans, lima beans and wheat. Low and behold I figured out with my first intensive detox that my body DOES function better when I eat more vegetables, less meat, no wheat and no dairy. Plus, I can’t eat red meat. It makes me sick. I favor fish and seafood as my “meat” of choice. And I hate lima beans. (I pick them out of the 15 bean soup when I make it. lol.) I was really surprised that this was so accurate. See, my body was already telling me what was good for it. What’s your blood type? It’s worth a look. Check out Eat Right for Your Type by Dr. Peter D’Adamo if you want to learn more about blood-type theory.

As a side note do still like a good pizza every now and then. Who doesn’t. I just have to save it for special occasion or when I really, really want it and make it up fresh. Can you guess what my favorite food is though? Sushi. I wonder why.

Agree with me or not, but I like organic foods. I like knowing that my foods haven’t been sprayed with some toxic chemical that will eventually make me sick. Additionally, speaking as a mom of kids with severe allergies, I like to know what is in my food. I like having the choice to determine what I eat.

Now the government in it’s infinite wisdom think that it should have control over our food supply. In theory, I’m sure they think it’s a great idea, but in implementation, they threaten to take away our very rights to choose what we want to eat. Call me a nut if you want because I like to shop at Whole Foods and I buy organic apples and cauliflower that haven’t been sprayed with chemicals, but it’s my choice. And I don’t like someone telling me what I can and cannot eat.

HR875 threatens to take my rights away. They’ve taken a few incidents of food contamination and turned it into another thing to be controlled by the government. Another opportunity to seize control of yet another aspect of American life. I personally think the current government is trying to control way too many things in our lives as it is. But now our food?

You should read this for yourself and see. Our local farmers already have a hard time as it is with seed patents by big business, overwhelming regulations and such, and now this latest hit will promise to put many more small farmers out of business. Only the big corporations with their genetically modified food and big pocketbooks will be able to survive.

I know most of you don’t think about your food or where it comes from. And in today’s economy we mostly buy what we can afford. But think about this. If the government controls our food supply under the guise of protecting us, what happens when that control is compromised? What happens when the big food companies turn into special interest groups and decide what we get to eat and how much we are going to pay for it?

Here is a little “food” for thought.

In the words of an actual farmer:

And from our President-

“We are a nation built on the strength of individual initiative. But there are certain things that we can’t do on our own. There are certain things that only a government can do. And one of those things is ensuring that the foods we eat, and the medicines we take, are safe and don’t cause us harm.” –Barack Obama

Do you really want the government controlling your food?
